I don't have enclosed parking at my home so I garage my car a quarter of a mile away. I own a sports car in pristine condition. And I take very good care of it. It's only a 5 or 6 minute walk. But I got to thinking about getting an electric scooter to get back and forth to my car. I looked at the options and picked the Megawheels S10. I'm glad I did.My new scooter is exactly what I wanted. It's well designed. No cables dangling anywhere. Collapsable for easy storage (I keep mine under a table next to my front door in a black scooter bag and you wouldn't even notice it unless you were looking for it}.Performance? You can pay thousands of dollars and get a scooter that will go 60MPH. This isn't that. This is a well-designed, moderately priced scooter that is great for running around your neighborhood or finishing your last mile commute to work. It accelerates quickly to 6, 12 or 15MPH depending on which top setting you want to use. I find the 6MPH setting too slow for me, might be good for younger kids. The 12MPH is great for my use. I've experimented with the 15MPH setting and ultimately may just keep the scooter at that setting for maximum power if/when you want it.Braking is immediate. And I mean IMMEDIATE. The electric brake is very aggressive. If you buy one of these Megawheels S10's I *really* recommend that you take it slow and practice using the brake. I could see where applying the brake too fast could throw you off the scooter. If you hit the electric brake hard, the scooter is going to come to a very fast stop (I mean REALLY fast). You could get face planted if you aren't paying attention. Practice using the brake starting with slow speeds and remember less is more with this brake.Ride quality? Pricier scooters may incorporate shock absorbers into the wheel systems. This scooter is not a "high end" scooter. The ride is fine on well paved roads but it gets bumpy on older or rough roads with uneven pavement. It's ALWAYS a good idea to pay close attention to road conditions when you ride ANY scooter. An obstacle in the road can ruin your day on ANY scooter. The Megawheels S10 is not for you if you travel on uneven or unpaved roads. You'll feel every bump. If I have a suggestion for this scooter, it would be to incorporate some sort of shock absorber in the front wheel on future editions of the scooter.My use of this scooter will be mostly short trips to my garage and maybe an occasional trip to Starbucks or the local park. Most of that travel is around a 1/2 mile or less. My use anytime would never exceed a mile or two and that would be rare.This is a fantastic scooter for the price range it's in. I've seen some critical reviews on YouTube. Very unfair. You don't spank a Kia for not being a Lamborghini. You can get higher end features, just be prepared to pay for them. This is a great moderately priced scooter that is ideal for short trips on well-paved roads. It excels in that use. I've ridden my scooter several times since it arrived earlier in the week and enjoyed every trip. The acceleration was impressive and the ride was fun. But it's a Kia, not a Lamborghini. If you are looking for a great short trip or light-recreational use scooter, look no further. If you want to go backroading at faster speeds, this might not be your ideal choice.For my needs, the Megawheels scooter is terrific and it's a purchase I'm very pleased with.UPDATE: The manufacturer has excellent and responsive customer service, and after reaching out to them they offered to refund the price difference, allowing me to avoid returning the physical scooter.The value is really excellent, and even at a much higher price point this scooter would be well worth buying. I'm personally at the higher end of the rated weight carriage range, but it zips along comfortably at least on fairly level ground. I haven't had occasion to test it against aggressive hills, because I live in a fairly densely populated urban area where many of the main arteries have dedicated lanes for bicycles and small vehicles of this type.Upgrading my review from one to four stars, I'm withholding the final star because of the opaque pricing policy. Within the past few weeks, I've seen this same listing on Amazon for as much as $359.99 and as low as (today) $284.99 with $40.00 coupon for a net price of $244.99, actually slightly less than the $249.99 after refunded that I ended up paying. I want to buy a scooter, not time the market. At some point, the price should reflect fair market value, and that should be relatively stable at least in the short-term, without wild price fluctuations.My original interest in this scooter was piqued by friends who bought other brands in the $600-800 range, but they use them as primary transportation and I didn't need that, so I was willing to sacrifice battery capacity and motor power for cost savings. After some research, it became apparent that Megawheels is the least expensive brand of adult scooters useful for real transportation, and I was reassured by finding a number of hands-on review videos on YouTube praising the solid construction and ease of assembly of this model.The design of the scooter is well thought out, down to the handlebars using left-handed thread on one side and right-handed thread on the other side, which according to some of the posted reviews has stymied a number of people during assembly, but from an engineering perspective it is obvious this was done to prevent the handlebars from coming loose in ordinary usage and is a good idea. The thread direction needed for assembly is clearly marked on both the turning and fixed parts, but it is undeniably counter-intuitive and unexpected, so people who do not pay attention to instructions are at a disadvantage.ORIGINAL REVIEW:The scooter looks promising and sturdy, and was easy to assemble.What went off-the-rails wrong is that I discovered after assembling it that the manufacturer ON THEIR OWN WEB SITE sells the scooter for $50 less (with free shipping) than I paid on Amazon, and as a matter of policy Amazon could offer no option other than for me to break down the scooter, repackage it, and ship it back via UPS. The end result was that I had to go through a lot of effort, Amazon had to eat the cost of shipping both for the initial order and the return, and the returned scooter can no longer be sold as new.Do not buy this scooter from Amazon! Buy it more cheaply from the manufacturer directly.
